Objective and Goal
The overall objective of the “Workshop on Earth observation for Disaster Risk Reduction: Droughts – Floods” is to enhance the capabilities of technical
personnel working in the area of disaster management in the use of satellite Earth observation (EO) data to provide accurate and timely information
to decision-makers and program managers working to meet the disaster-related goals and targets of the three global agendas for sustainable development
(Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction).
Dealing with disasters is cross-cutting to these three global agendas.
The overall objective will be reached by building capacity of technical personnel in the use of Earth observation (EO) data working in disaster
management and academic institutions in the Mesoamerican and Caribbean region and raising awareness of their decision-makers of the value of building
and maintaining institutional capacity in the use of EO and other geospatial data.
