HOW TO REACH INAOE, Tonantzintla

Route via Mexico City airport

Most international flights come to the international airport Benito Juarez in Mexico City. There is a direct bus service, offered by Estrella Roja , from the Mexico City airport to Puebla, with a 30 minute frequency during the day. In Puebla, buses reach a friendly bus terminal at 4 Poniente, where pre-paid taxi service is available. The cost of one-way bus ticket is 300 Mexican pesos. It will take 2 to 2.5 hours to reach Puebla, depending on the traffic on the way.

Your distination for taxi is Tonantzintla or Instituto Nacional de Astrofisica, Optica y Electronica. Our campus is also popularly known as Tonantzintla Observatory or simply INAOE (pronounced as INA-O-E). The taxi ride takes about 30-40 minutes. The cost should be about 120 - 150 Mexican pesos.

You get down from the taxi at the Institute gate, where a guard is available for 24 hours. You will collect your guest room key from the guard, who will also help you to find your alloted room, known commonly as bungalow.

Route via direct flight to Puebla

You may also fly directly to Puebla from Dallas or Houston, and then take a taxi at the Puebla airport to the Institute, as explained above. The price should be about 250 - 300 Mexican pesos.

THE WEATHER INFORMATION

Puebla is located in a valley flanked by volcanoes at the altitude of about 2200 meters above the mean sea level. This results in a significant contrast between the midday and midnight temperature. It is usually warm during the day but the temperature drops after the sunset. September marks the end of the rainy season, and generally it is pleasant. Nevertheless be prepared for sunny, rainy or cold weather.

LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU SOON AND HAVING A PRODUCTIVE WORKSHOP!
