March 8 at INAOE
To commemorate International Women's Day, the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics (INAOE), a center coordinated by the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (SECIHTI), organized various activities at its headquarters in Tonantztintla, Puebla.
On March 6, students and staff from the Institute created posters and banners with images, phrases, and stories alluding to women's struggle for equality and a world free of violence. They also participated in a discussion that addressed topics such as the current situation of women, inequality of rights and opportunities, and the violence, in all its forms, that women face in their daily lives.
In addition, two conferences were organized on March 10. The first was virtual and titled "Women's Labor Development and Their Historical Dilemma" and was taught by Margaret Isabel Ruiz Franco, from the Mora Institute's Gender Unit. The second, in person, was titled "Equality for Women, a Path to Peace" and was taught by Abigail Báez Madrigal, Director of Public Security for San Martín Texmelucan.
Both sessions were highly attended by the INAOE community, especially researchers, technologists, technicians, students, and workers.
These activities were jointly organized by INAOE, the INAOE Workers' Union (SUTINAOE), and the Institute's Crafties Club.
