INAOE participates in International Women's Day activities

On Thursday, March 6, the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics (INAOE), a center coordinated by the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (Secihti), participated in two events organized to commemorate International Women's Day.

The first event was titled "Female Polyphony: Voices of Women in Science." It was organized by the Government of the State of Puebla through the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation and held at the Museum of Evolution.

The program of activities included a conference, a discussion with women scientists, workshops, and demonstrations. The talk was given by Dr. María del Carmen García Aguilar, Director of Gender Equality at BUAP.

The discussion included Dr. Claudia Feregrino Uribe, Head of Affairs for the Research and Technological Development Departments at INAOE; Biol. Ileana Conde Rodríguez, from CIBIOR IMSS; M. C. Irandheny Yoval Pozos, from BUAP/CERN; and M. Elda Pérez Hernández, from CISCO.

In addition to INAOE, the SEP (Spanish Ministry of Public Education), BUAP (Buap), the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de San Martín Texmelucan (Higher Technological Institute of San Martín Texmelucan), and the Secretariats of Substantive Equality, Culture and Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation of the Government of the State of Puebla participated.

INAOE, on behalf of the Alfonso Serrano Large Millimeter Telescope, set up two stands: one for the Alfonso Serrano Large Millimeter Telescope and another for the Directorate of Academic Training. The Institute also offered two workshops.

INAOE was also present at the CEM Women's Day Festival, organized by the José María Morelos y Pavón School Center. In this context, Dr. Irazú Hernández Farías, a researcher in the INAOE's Computer Science Coordination, gave a lecture. INAOE also offered workshops on electronics (snap kits) and "Playing with Science," and demonstrations were given using the Van de Graaf coil from the Lighting and Energy Efficiency Laboratory. A mobile planetarium was also installed.
