Electro Tlalli: a project to train young people in the design of integrated circuits

Santa María Tonantzintla, Puebla, February 7, 2025. With the participation of 162 high school students, today at the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), a center of the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (Secihti), the Electro Tlalli workshop began. This project seeks to train talents in the design of integrated circuits.

The workshop was inaugurated this morning in a ceremony presided over by Dr. David Sánchez de la Llave, Interim General Director of INAOE; Dr. Celina Peña Guzmán, Secretary of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation of the state of Puebla (Secihti Puebla); Dr. Claudia Feregrino Uribe, in charge of the affairs of the Research and Technological Development Directorates of INAOE, and Dr. Alejandro Bautista Castillo, technological researcher at INAOE and leader of the project.

The workshop is organized by INAOE and the Government of the State of Puebla through the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation of the State of Puebla (Secihti Puebla), and is part of the national efforts to train young talents in the semiconductor area.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Sánchez de la Llave thanked the talented young men and women who attended the workshop, and hoped that they would make the most of their participation in it.

In turn, Dr. Celina Peña Guzmán highlighted that 162 high school students participate in Electro Tlalli, and said that Puebla is the first state in the country that has accelerated training for the semiconductor design center.

Electro Tlalli seeks to train students in the design of integrated circuits, giving them access to cutting-edge tools and knowledge. Through this program, participants will be able to design, manufacture and characterize their own circuits, living a complete experience in nanoelectronics.

The program includes a five-hour session of theoretical training, practical workshops to design and simulate integrated circuits, and weekly consultation sessions to guide students in their projects.

This project is expected to promote the development of national talents in advanced technologies.
