Science Workshop for Young People 2024

30 high school students from the cities of San Pedro and San Andrés Cholula, Puebla, Atlixco and Amozoc, attend the XXIII Science Workshop for Young People (TCJ) which is taking place this week (July 8-12) at the INAOE facilities.

The objective of the TCJ is to encourage scientific vocations in the STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and to bring science closer to young people through talks, demonstrations and intensive workshops in the research areas that are cultivated at the INAOE.

The TCJ program has included a Physics course taught every day by Dr. Francisco Soto Eguibar, researcher at the Optics Department. Other speakers are Mabel Valerdi and Abraham Luna, of the Astrophysics Department.

In addition, attendees have participated in the workshops “Magic of Color” and “Build a Telescope,” and have visited the laboratories of Aspheric Surfaces, Optics, Electrophotonics, Microelectronics, Digital Signal Processing, Lighting and Energy Efficiency, Biosignal Processing and Medical Computing, Robotics and Biomedical Optics. On Monday they learned about a solar telescope and that same evening they attended an astronomical evening at the historic Schmidt camera in Tonantzintla.

The TCJ concludes this Friday, July 12, with a day that includes visits to the Guillermo Haro Museum and the laboratories of Image Sciences and Astronomical Instrumentation and Millimeter Waves. The TCJ students will perform a farewell scientific parody.
