Dr. Esteban Tlelo receives the 2024 "Luis Rivera Terrazas" Award

Yesterday, the Congress of the State of Puebla awarded the State Medal for Science and Technology to Dr. Esteban Tlelo Cuautle, researcher at the Electronics Coordination of INAOE, in the category of research in basic sciences and Humanities - Physics-Mathematics, Earth Sciences and Engineering.

The award aims to promote science and technology in Puebla and recognizes the contributions of researchers in different areas.

Present at the ceremony were Dr. Julián David Sánchez de la Llave, interim general director of  INAOE; Dr. Lilia Cedillo Ramírez, rector of BUAP; the Undersecretary of Higher Education, Miguel Ángel Fernández Pérez; the director of the Council of Science and Technology of the State of Puebla, Victoriano Covarrubias Salvatori; deputies of the LXI Legislature; rectors and directors of different educational institutions, and family members and colleagues of the award winners.

The president of the Governing Board and Political Coordination of the State Congress, Edgar Garmendia de los Santos, said that the "Luis Rivera Terrazas" award is the highest prize given by the Legislative Branch to the most outstanding people in science, technology and humanities.

For her part, Deputy Patricia Valencia Ávila, president of the Science and Technology Commission of the State Congress, welcomed the award winners, special guests and the presidium, and presented a brief summary of the winners of the following categories:

-In the category of research in basic sciences and Humanities:

I. Physics-Mathematics, Earth Sciences and Engineering: Dr. Esteban Tlelo Cuautle

II. Biology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Agricultural Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences: Dr. Estibaliz Sansinenea Royano

III. Social Sciences, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences: Dr. Rosalva Loreto López

-In the modality of technological development and applied research

I. Innovation, design, technological development, engineering, environment, sustainable development, renewable energy, humanities, food and agroindustries: Dr. Beatriz Pérez Armendáriz.

-In the modality of dissemination of technology and science

I. Technology, exact, natural, social sciences, art and humanities: Mtro. José Antonio Robles Pérez.

Dr. Esteban Tlelo Cuautle

Dr. Tlelo Cuautle was born in Cholula, Puebla. He has made contributions in the fields of research, teaching and dissemination. He is currently a member of the National System of Researchers SNII level 3. He is also a member of the board of directors and founder of the Mexican Association of Dynamic Systems and Complexity, whose objective is to generate national and international collaboration networks in dynamic systems and complexity.

He has published 146 articles in JCR (Journal Citation Reports) journals and 50 in emerging journals. He is the author of five books published by Springer and CRC Press, editor of 14 books, has 180 conference papers and 41 book chapters.

He has given 20 international and 88 national conferences. In addition, he has directed 13 PhD theses, 38 Master's and 19 Bachelor's theses. He has taught more than 30 courses at the INAOE and around ten abroad.

He was ranked 12th in the international ranking Best Electronics and Electrical Engineering Scientists in Mexico, published in 2023. He received the award for the best productive researcher at  INAOE in 2022-2023 and the 2021 Entropy Outstanding Reviewer MDPI Entropy Award, Academic Open Access Publishing.

His scientific and frontier research activities have earned him an index h=33 in Web of Science, h=38 Scopus; and h=45 Google Scholar.

He has been a Visiting Professor at CINVESTAV, the University of California at Riverside, the Università di Firenze in Florence, Italy, and the University of Electronic Science & Technology of China, in Chengdu, China. He is an associate editor in nine international journals.

He was also a member of the evaluation committee at SNII-Conahcyt in 2020 and 2022, and an evaluator in the promotion of professors at the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He has been an evaluator of scientific projects at Prociencia Peru and FONCYT Argentina, technical manager of ten projects sponsored by Conahcyt and participant in four.
