Dr. Gordana Jovanovic Dolecek receives the IEEE John Choma Education Award

The John Choma Award honors researchers with exceptional contributions to education in a field within the scope of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) (https://ieee-cas.org/award/society-achievement-awards/ieee-circuits-and-systems-society-john-choma-education-award).

Contributions are quantifiable through textbook publications, supervision of graduate and undergraduate student research, development of short courses, and personal involvement in continuing education within the field. The award is based on the quality, continuity, and originality of contributions, as well as active participation in CASS as evidenced by articles in CASS journals and CASS-sponsored conferences, and service to the CASS community.

This award is named after John Choma, who was well known and respected in the CASS community and society. His passion for the field and for education justifies the name of this award in memory and honor of him.

This year, Dr. Gordana Jovanovic Dolecek, researcher at INAOE, received the John Choma Award for her contribution to education in signal processing. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that this important recognition has come to Mexico.

Dr. Gordana Jovanovic Dolecek is the only researcher who received two prestigious CASS awards this year: the John Choma Award and the award for best Associate Editor of the IEEE CASS II journal.

As every year, the award ceremony took place during the flagship conference of CASS, ISCAS, which this year was held in Singapore in May 2024. The award was presented by the current president of CASS, Dr. Myung Hoon Sunwoo.

The award consists of a wooden plaque and one thousand dollars.
