INAOE invites to its Postgraduate Fair

  • The Fair will take place at INAOE on February 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • It is aimed at students in the last semesters of Physics, Mathematics and related areas at the INAOE.
  • There will be information tables about INAOE's graduate programs, as well as simultaneous conferences and visits to telescopes and laboratories.

Santa María Tonantzintla, February 22, 2024. The National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), a center coordinated by the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (Conahcyt), invites students from the last semesters of Physics, Mathematics and related areas to its 2024 Postgraduate Fair, which will take place at its facilities on February 28.

Dr. Francisco Renero Carrillo, Director of Academic Training at INAOE, reported that the Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. He explained that the event is very similar to what is known as open doors. The program includes visits to laboratories, conferences and a personalized information bazaar for each attendee.

He added that the attendees will have the opportunity to see some of INAOE laboratories, from the most sophisticated ones such as those for Innovation in MEMS, Microelectronics and Aspherical Surfaces, to the most conventional ones where there are interferometers and holographic tables, which are those that are controlled by air so there is no vibration.

The researcher from the Optics Coordination also stressed that the event is aimed at students in the last semesters of the Physics and Mathematics degree, although the transversal postgraduate courses are also aimed at students of health sciences, medicine, biology and physiotherapy: “In particular, it is possible for people from the areas of Humanities, psychology and law to enter the master's degree in Security as long as they pass the admission process.”

Additionally, there will be a bazaar made up of tables: “There will be one from the Directorate of Academic Training where the person in charge of admissions will  give information on the different postgraduate courses, and around this table there will be others with researchers from the different postgraduate courses so that each and all attendees receive first-hand information about the program of their interest.”

There will also be simultaneous talks, at least two from each postgraduate course: “The intention is that if students arrive when a talk has already passed or are interested in two talks and one is being held at the same time as the other, they can attend both.”

Dr. Renero highlighted that the calls to enter the different INAOE master's degrees will be published on February 26 and will conclude in the second week of April. The admission process is made up of registration, validation of information and admission either by exam modality or by preparatory courses.

“This call covers all master's degrees, from the classic ones in research in the areas of Astrophysics, Optics, Electronics and Computer Sciences, to the transversal ones in Space Science and Technology, Biomedical Sciences and Technologies, Security Sciences and Technologies and Science Teaching.”

He notified that the 14 INAOE postgraduate courses, particularly the master's degrees, are recognized by the National Postgraduate System, and clarified that the scholarships are awarded by Conahcyt: “The Institute issues the certificate of acceptance in the event that the student has approved the admission process.”

Finally, Dr. Renero added that INAOE is unique: “you will not find an Institute at the international level with the characteristics of INAOE. Our researchers are unique, they are excellent, they like to teach. The students who graduate from this Institute leave immensely happy and with a lot of knowledge.”
