International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2024

Santa María Tonantzintla, February 1, 2024. Visits to laboratories and telescopes, storytelling, drone demonstrations and conferences are some of the activities that make up the program with which the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), center coordinated by the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (Conahcyt), will organize next Monday, February 12, to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

In December 2015, the UN General Assembly declared February 11 as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in recognition of the key role women play in the scientific and technological communities.

This celebration seeks to support women scientists and promote access for women and girls to education, training and research in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The program that the INAOE has prepared for this year is aimed at the secondary and high school levels. Activities include visits to the Institute's laboratories and telescopes (the historic Schmidt Camera of Tonantzintla and the solar telescope), as well as tours of the Guillermo Haro Museum, reading days, storytelling presentations, conferences and open dialogue.

Researchers, researchers, technicians and students from the INAOE, the Women in Electronics chapter of the IEEE, the Ministry of Culture of the Government of the State of Puebla and the Department of Sciences and Engineering of Ibero Puebla will participate in these activities.
To participate in this celebration or for more information, send an email to visitas@inaoep.mx Space is limited.
