INAOE 2023 graduate meeting: inspiring new generations

Santa María Tonantzintla, Puebla, November 8, 2023. More than 50 people attended the meeting of graduates of the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), a center of the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (Conahcyt ).

The meeting was co-organized by the INAOE and the Student Committee, with the objectives of strengthening the Institute's ties with its community of graduates, making personal and work connections, and inspiring new generations.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Edmundo Antonio Gutiérrez Domínguez, General Director of the INAOE; Dr. Daniel Durini Romero, Director of Research and Technological Development; Dr. Francisco Renero Carrillo, Director of Academic Training, and M. C. Edgar Platas Campero, representative of the INAOE Student Committee.
In his welcome speech, Dr. Edmundo Antonio Gutiérrez Domínguez said that there are around 2,600 INAOE graduates in total working in universities, research centers and industry in Mexico and abroad.

“I myself graduated from the INAOE master's degree 37 years ago and it is a double pride for me because today I have to be present to see the fruit of the Institute's generation of human talent and to be here as General Director of the INAOE,” he stressed.
He added that among the goals of the INAOE are to generate human talent that contributes to improving the life of our country and to continue contributing to the development of science and technology in global terms.

For his part, Dr. Francisco Renero highlighted that the world requires increasingly more qualified people. He spoke about the evolution of INAOE's postgraduate courses, which are now interdisciplinary. “Truly, being INAOE graduates opens doors for them. Stay close to the Institute, which is constantly evolving and developing different lines of research that can open doors for you,” he expressed.
In turn, Dr. Daniel Durini commented: “we will always remain open to receiving you, to cooperation and collaboration at the level of projects, academic exchange, presentations and your presence with your new experiences. We deeply appreciate that you share your experiences with our students so that they can see what awaits them.”
Dr. Durini told the graduates present that they are INAOE ambassadors in the world: “we are very proud of your achievements, and we allow ourselves to feel part of that which enriches internal academic life and our presence in society. We have two dimensions of the mission: to be socially relevant locally and internationally relevant.”
The program of activities for the meeting also included conferences by graduates: “Mechatronics and electromobility”, with Dr. José Luis Vázquez González, Academic Director of the Department of Computing, Electronics and Mechatronics at UDLAP; “New tools and techniques for data collection and analysis”, with Dr. Samuel Montero Hernández, postdoctoral researcher at Boston University, and “Challenges and opportunities of our generation”, with Dr. Juan Antonio de Jesús Osuna Coutiño, from the company Prefixa.
After the conferences, the graduates went to the Guillermo Haro Museum, where the institutional memory project was presented. The Dr. Raúl Serrano Campillo, Gullberg and INAOE collections could also be seen.
