List of venues in Puebla where the solar eclipse on October 14 will be observed

Puebla, Puebla, October 11, 2023.- More than 85 locations in 27 municipalities in the state of Puebla make up the list of places where the general public will be able to appreciate the partial solar eclipse on October 14.

This was announced this morning at a press conference by researchers from the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), a Conahcyt research center, and academics from the Popular Autonomous University of the State of Puebla (UPAEP).
The conference was chaired by doctors José Ramón Valdés Parra, coordinator of Astrophysics at the INAOE; Dr. Raúl Mújica García, INAOE researcher and members of the National Eclipse Committee of Mexico; Dr. Izbeth Hernández López, professor in the Physics area of the UPAEP, and Professor Mario Enrique López Medina, professor in the Physics area of the UPAEP.
Teacher Mario Enrique López Medina reported that the eclipse on October 14 will be a partial solar eclipse, which we can see in different parts of Mexico. "In particular in Puebla it will be a partial eclipse, approximately 70 percent and there will be another eclipse in April of next year, also here in Puebla it will be seen at 70 percent although in 2024 it will be total in some places in Mexico."
To safely appreciate the eclipse, he stressed that you should not see the Sun directly, so methods must be used to see it indirectly or, alternatively, use certified filters.
For his part, Dr. José Ramón Valdés explained that an annular eclipse of the Sun will occur on October 14, unlike the eclipse we will have next year, on April 8, which will be a total eclipse.
"Let us remember that solar eclipses occur when the Moon, that is, the disk of the Moon in its orbit around the Earth, comes between our planet and the Sun. Curiously, the Moon and the Sun have an angular diameter, a size very similar apparent in the sky. The Moon, although it is 400 times smaller than the Sun, is 400 times closer to the Sun than we are, so when we project both objects into the sky, they practically have the same angular size, and when the Moon's disk passes In front of the disk of the Sun then solar eclipses occur, which can be of three types: total, annular and partial,” he explained.
In turn, Dr. Izbeth Hernández López reported details about the different locations that the UPAEP will open for the observation of Saturday's eclipse. On the central campus of Santiago there will be three locations, two of which will be open to the public on 21 Poniente and another on the 23 South side. They also opened three more locations in their high schools.
For his part, Dr. Raúl Mújica García reported that there are now more than 85 locations for observing the eclipse in the municipalities of Acajete, Acatlán de Osorio, Atlixco, Atzitzintla, Calpan, Ciudad Serdán, Cuetzalan, Cuyuaco, Esperanza, Izúcar de Matamoros , Juan C. Bonilla, Nopalucan, Oriental, San Pedro Yeloixtlahuaca, Tehuacán, Tetela de Ocampo, Tlaltenango, Tlataluquitepec, Totoltepec de Guerrero, Zacapala, Zacapoaxtla and Zaragoza.
There will also be numerous headquarters in the capital of Puebla and its metropolitan area: Cuautlancingo and San Andrés and San Pedro Cholula.
The press conference was also attended by Dr. Darío Edwin Gómez García, Science Coordinator of Ibero Puebla; teacher Yuri Ángeles, in charge of the Gilberto Bosques Saldívar Library, of the Secretariat of Welfare and Citizen Participation of Puebla capital; Dr. Víctor Hugo Cabrera, director of the Puebla Planetarium, and Mtra. Rosario Juárez, director of the Puebla Reading Council. All of them gave details of their headquarters.
