Santa María Tonantzintla, Puebla, September 29, 2023.- 32 high school and high school students participated in the “Computer and Electronics Workshop for young women from the communities near the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE)”, Conahcyt public research center.

The objective of the Workshop was to promote scientific vocations among young Mexican women in STEM areas (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
This event was sponsored by the IEEE International Committee for Women in Sensors (WiSe-IEEE), whose objective is to promote the presence and advancement of women in the area of sensors.
The workshop began at nine o'clock with a welcome by Dr. Edmundo Antonio Gutiérrez Domínguez, General Director of the INAOE, and Dr. Bertha Patricia Guzmán Velázquez, in charge of the Office of Institutional Liaison and Planning.
The program of activities was made up of activities such as a workshop with kits to carry out experiments, a talk on Mexican women in science, a drone demonstration, a conference on technology that empowers women, a computational thinking workshop and a panel in which INAOE researchers talked about their careers, what motivated them to dedicate themselves to science, the challenges they have faced and their achievements.

The participants also visited the Schmidt Chamber and the Robotics, Microelectronics, Radiofrequency and Electrophotonics laboratories.
From Spain, Dr. Silvia Díaz Lucas, professor and researcher at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering at the Public University of Navarra, Spain, sent a video in which she spoke about her career and encouraged the participants in the Workshop to study what they want and have self-confidence in themselves. It is important to emphasize that Dr. Díaz Lucas also belongs to the IEEE International Committee of Women in Sensors (IEEE-WiSe).
