With an induction workshop, INAOE welcomes its new students

Santa María Tonantzintla, Puebla, August 18. With an informative session and an induction workshop, this day the 133 new students of the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), Conahcyt's public research center, were welcomed.

The activities began with an informative session led by doctors Edmundo Antonio Gutiérrez Domínguez, General Director of INAOE; Francisco Renero Carrillo, Director of Academic Training, and Daniel Durini Romero, Director of Research and Technological Development.

Also present were the coordinators of Astrophysics, Optics, Electronics and Computational Sciences, the teaching representatives of the graduate programs, all the staff of the Academic Department and members of the INAOE Student Committee.

Dr. Edmundo Antonio Gutiérrez Domínguez, General Director of INAOE, welcomed the new students, whom he thanked for having chosen the Institute to pursue a postgraduate program and wished them a fruitful and happy stay here.

For his part, Dr. Daniel Durini Romero told them that this is an important stage in their lives and that it will not be easy. “We will support you to be successful and after you graduate, we look forward to continuing our collaboration with you.”

In turn, Dr. Francisco Renero spoke about the history of INAOE and underscored the relevance of the two central figures for the Institute: Luis Enrique Erro, founder of the Tonantzintla National Astrophysical Observatory, and Guillermo Haro, founder of INAOE.

“You are in a place with a long tradition in science and technology. All our researchers are highly recognized. This is one of the best places to learn.” Likewise, he asked them to conduct themselves with respect and to assert their right to be treated with respect by everyone in the community.

To conclude, he presented the staff of the Academic Department and the different services that the area provides to students.
After the information session, various integration activities were carried out. The new students visited the INAOE facilities.
