30 young students attend the Youth Science Workshop

Santa María Tonantzintla, Puebla, July 21, 2023. The National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) received 30 young high school students from the cities of Puebla, San Andrés Cholula, San Pedro Cholula and the communities near Tonantzintla at the XXII Youth Science Workshop (TCJ), which took place from July 17 to 21.

After three consecutive virtual editions in 2020, 2021 and 2022, the 2023 edition returned to its face-to-face form, with the objective of promoting scientific vocations in the STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), bringing young people closer to the science through talks, demonstrations, intensive workshops and tours to the laboratories of the research areas that are cultivated in the INAOE.

The inauguration was carried out by Dr. Daniel Durini Romero, Director of Research and Technological Development, Dr. Patricia Guzmán, in charge of the Planning and Liaison Office; Dr. Agustín Márquez Limón, technician from the Astrophysics Coordination, and Dr. Francisco Soto Eguibar, researcher from the Optics Coordination. These last two are active participants of the TCJ in all its editions.

Dr. Daniel Durini gave a welcome message. He shared with th students his joy that boys and girls their age have the desire to continue with a scientific career. Likewise, he informed them that the Institute has its doors open so that after their university education they can continue their life of professional preparation by studying one of the postgraduateprograms of INAOE.
The organizing committee for this edition was made up of Lic. Ana María Ramírez, in charge of INAOE's Outreach activities, Mtra. Guadalupe Rivera Loy, Dr. Patricia Guzmán and Dr. Juana Medina. As well as students from the IEEE and OSA student chapters of the INAOE.
This is one of the many activities that INAOE organizes within the framework of the General Law on Humanities, Sciences, Technologies and Innovation, with the objectives of contributing to the construction of a more just society and promoting scientific vocations.
