Latin American Conference on Electronic Devices LAEDC 2023

Puebla, Puebla, on July 3. With the attendance of more than one hundred participants from 21 countries, the Latin American Conference on Electronic Devices (LAEDC 2023), the main conference on electronic devices and related fields in Latin America of the IEEE sponsored by the IEEE Electron Devices Society, was inaugurated this morning in the city of Puebla. This year, LAEDC is also sponsored by the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE).

LAEDC brings together specialists from the industry and the academia in all the fields related to electronic devices. This fifth edition is a hybrid event with a strong component of technology-based humanitarian projects and STEM. The conference will be aimed at both students and young researchers and professionals.

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Esteban Arias, co-president of LAEDC 2023, reported that 105 participants from 21 countries attend this edition. Likewise, 42 articles and 16 posters will be presented. He recalled that this year other events associated with the Conference were held, such as the ESD-IEEE Summer School of Region 9, which took place from June 29 to July 1 and was attended by 81 students, and "Open Engineering for the Citizens", co-organized with the Puebla City Council on June 29, which was attended by 300 high school students from the capital of Puebla.

Other activities related to the conference were held yesterday, July 2: the MOS-AK workshop, the meeting of the Latin American representatives of the Region 9 Subcommittee and Chapters of the EDS-IEEE, and a mini-colloquium.

Dr. Arias reported that this year's LAEDC keynote speakers are Michael Shur, Martin A. Green, Víctor Grimblatt, Luis G. Kun, Fernando Guarín and David Hughes.

As part of the activities of the Conference, there will be a special session on the role of women in STEAM areas with the participation of Clyo Durán, Isabela Buitrón and Morgan Kiani, and a panel on humanitarian technologies.

Dr. Cor Clays, co-chair of LAEDC 2023, highlighted the role of the sponsors of the event: EDS-IEEE, INAOE, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Synopsys, Global Foundries, IEEE Humanitarian Technologies Board, AcMax , Tektronix, FormFactor, IEEE Young Professional, IEEE Women in Engineering, IEEE Smart Village, and IEEE Learning Network.

Finally, Dr. Edmundo Antonio Gutiérrez Domínguez, General Director of INAOE, welcomed everybody and briefly spoke about INAOE, an institution that "dances on the shores of the universe."
