As of September, students of the Doctorate in Space Science and Technology of the INAOE will be able to apply for a scholarship to Conacyt

Santa María Tonantzintla, Puebla, September 22, 2022. The postgraduate doctoral program in Space Science and Technology of the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) has just been registered in the National Postgraduate System (SNP), giving the possibility for the students of said program to request scholarships from Conacyt.
In 2014, the INAOE created the postgraduate degree in Space Science and Technology, initially at the master's level and, since 2018, at the doctorate level. In this way, the INAOE postgraduate offer was expanded, which traditionally offers postgraduate programs in Astrophysics, Optics, Electronics and Computer Science.
Currently, there are 13 students from the 2021 and 2022 generations in the master's degree. There are other students from previous generations who are working on their theses.
For Dr. Sergio Camacho Lara, INAOE researcher and teaching representative of said postgraduate program, the registration of the doctorate in Space Science and Technology in the National Postgraduate System is a great achievement.

Globally, space science and technology is the fastest growing area in both the private and public sectors, with investments of billions of dollars, he explains.
The researcher adds that in order for Mexico to be fully inserted in the international space arena, it needs to train highly qualified personnel in various fields of space science and technology.
INAOE's doctoral program is based on research in interaction processes between electromagnetic radiation and matter, satellite meteorology, satellite communication systems, space vehicle control systems, image analysis, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS by its acronym in English), space geodesy, and orbital dynamics.
The program focuses on preparing researchers capable of identifying and solving scientific and technological problems in the interplanetary space environment, Earth observation, positioning, navigation and weather systems, and satellite systems.
In the future, doctoral graduates are expected to be able to make important decisions related to the formulation and implementation of national development programs for the benefit of the country's social, scientific, and productive sectors.
