INAOE researchers receive an award

From November 8 to 11, 2022, the twenty-fourth edition of the IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC 2022) was held, an event in which a group of researchers from the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics presented a research work that was awarded.

The article with which they participated in the special session of computational and biomedical applications (Computer/Biomedical Applications) was titled "Exposure Time and Depth Effect in Laser Speckle Contrast Images under an Adaptive Processing".

The authors of the article are Eduardo Morales Vargas, who recently graduated with a PhD in Computer Science from INAOE and who did his thesis under the advice of Dr. Hayde Peregrina Barreto and Julio Cesar Ramírez San Juan, INAOE researchers in the areas of Computer Science and Optics respectively.

This work, derived from the thesis of Eduardo Morales Vargas, focused on measuring the performance of Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging (LSCI) methods, a non-invasive technique to measure blood flow in microvasculature, when faced with changes in flow velocity, the depth of the tissue and the exposure time of the camera that captures the images. Likewise, the reference techniques in the literature were compared with the technique proposed for the estimation of LSCI, showing that the latter is less affected by changes in the aforementioned factors.

After being evaluated by the congress committee, the work received the recognition of "Best Track Paper" in its category.
