OPTICS

The Optics Department was created in 1972, just after the foundation of the INAOE. Its two postgraduate degrees, Master’s and Doctorate in Sciences with a specialty in Optics, are the oldest of the INAOE. Currently, the master's program is classified as International Competition, while the doctoral program as Consolidated, in the National Register of Quality Postgraduate Programs of CONACYT.

We have a staff of 37 researchers with well-defined lines of scientific and technological research and with a clear academic commitment to students enrolled in INAOE postgraduate courses. 84% of the researchers belong to the National System of Researchers, of which 55% are National Researchers Level 2 and 3, while 8% are Fellows of the Optical Society of America.

The mission of the researchers associated with the Optic Department is to: conduct cutting-edge basic research, conduct applied research aimed at meeting the needs of society, and train human resources capable of solving highly relevant scientific and technological problems.

Within our physical infrastructure, we have more than 20 laboratories equipped to carry out research, two laboratories to carry out development of experiements, a secondary laboratory certified for spectrophotometry and colorimetry, a mechanical workshop, and an optics workshop with the capacity to produce conventional optical components for research, teaching, and technological development.
